Be Prepared For Whatever Shows Up

Be Prepared For Whatever Shows Up

Not every challenge sends a calendar invite.

Most of them don't. The trail that's longer than the map said. The workout that gets moved up because your schedule fell apart. The week that turns into a gauntlet with zero warning. Life doesn't usually give you a training block to prepare — it just shows up and asks what you've got.

That's the thing about being "ready." It's not really about one big event. It's about what you've built before the event ever happens.

The BUBS Approach: Build It Before You Need It

BUBS was founded on the idea of doing hard things — not because hard things are fun, but because doing them builds something you can rely on later. Our namesake, Glen "Bub" Doherty, lived that way. Show up, do the work, take care of the people around you, and let your preparation speak when it counts.

That mindset doesn't require a Navy SEAL background or a race on the calendar. It requires consistency — the kind that's easy to overlook because it doesn't look impressive on any given day.

Readiness Is a Daily Habit, Not a Last-Minute Sprint

You can't cram for readiness. You can't out-train two years of inconsistency in a single hard week. What you can do is stack small, repeatable habits that compound:

  • Move your body most days, even when it's a walk instead of a workout.

  • Fuel and recover like it matters, because it does.

  • Show up for the boring stuff — sleep, hydration, the daily basics — since that's what holds everything else up.

Strength and recovery habits work the same way. A daily scoop of creatine isn't about one PR — it's about showing up with the strength and power to handle whatever effort the day demands, on a random Tuesday just as much as race day.

The Real Test Isn't the Big Moment

The people who handle the unexpected well aren't the ones who trained for that specific moment. They're the ones who never stopped training, period. The challenge doesn't care if you feel ready. Your habits do the deciding long before the moment ever arrives.

So the next time something shows up uninvited — a hard workout, a hard week, a hard anything — you won't be scrambling. You'll already be in motion.

Build the habit now. Let it carry you later.
